So all this talk of the Eagles lately, on the Schleaf-blog and its all that anyone on WIP talks about... What about the Phillies? They have the 2nd best record in spring training 12-6, they are in the bottom 5 in runs allowed. Utley is a stud, Howard is a monster... you know Burrell will get his 30 and 100, same with Abreu, and now we have someone in the outfield in Rowand that will actuall hustle. How come no excitement about the Phightin's? I know we'll get let down again in September, but until then I for one have decided to be more then mildly interested... Thoughts?

I am looking forward for the Phillies season, but their pitching stinks, Catcher and 3rd base are weak, they could have been a contender if they spent a little buck... Then again in 93 I didn't like their pitching either and Danny Jackson, Schill, Terry M. came through big..
Yea... I am just praying for David Bell to get a career ending paper cut or something... he is talking like he'll be ready for opening day, "No matter what anyone else says" and you know Charlie ain't got the balls to bench him. I think the pitching might mediocre to OK. (hopefully) At least that would be better then mediocre to sucky as hell. You are right about Catcher, there's no light at the end of the tunnel there, even though Lieby is a free agent at the end of the year... Fasano certainly isn't a replacement.
I think the reason enthusiasm for the Phils is low is because we get the same thing from them every year. I am sure they'll be competitive, but they didn't do enough (in my opinion) to become a playoff team.
However, they did get rid of Wade, which was probably the biggest move they had to make, so the healing can finally begin. It was refreshing to hear Gillick say the team isn't good enough yet, after years of Wade saying "If our team plays to its potential and there are no injuries, we can make the playoffs."
